OTOMO – Questions That Matter
1. What does the name OTOMO mean?
OTOMO is derived from Japanese and means “companion.” It expresses the idea of a piece that stays close – not as a possession, but as a constant companion over time.
2. What is the concept behind OTOMO?
OTOMO stands for deliberate reduction in an age of excess. We create pieces that are precise, timeless, and designed to endure. Not less – but concentrated on what matters.
3. Why are OTOMO pieces limited?
Our limitation is intentional. It reflects transience and the movement toward what comes next – the next design we create. Each edition forms a closed chapter before the next begins.
4. How is an OTOMO piece created?
Every piece is developed in our atelier in Solothurn. We begin by searching for data – as with Marée, whose form emerged from the tidal patterns at Mont-Saint-Michel. From these thematic and structural data sets, we shape new designs through a dialogue between aesthetic intention and scientific insight. The form is digitally modeled, cast in Switzerland, and finished by hand.
5. What materials does OTOMO use?
We work exclusively with gold – no other precious metals. All gold is certified recycled gold from SAR Recycling SA in Riva San Vitale (Ticino), a member of the Responsible Jewellery Council. This ensures full traceability and avoids sourcing from unknown or problematic origins.
6. Where do the gemstones come from?
Our diamonds come from Blue Peacock Diamonds in Zurich, certified by the Responsible Jewellery Council. Each stone is individually inspected and delivered with origin and quality documentation.
7. How is an OTOMO piece presented?
Every piece is delivered in the OTOMO Display Case – a cylindrical acrylic display crafted in Switzerland. It measures 18 cm in height and 10 cm in diameter. The case is designed to keep the piece visible – as an object, not an item to be hidden away.
8. Where can I purchase OTOMO jewelry?
OTOMO is available exclusively through our website. We do not operate a traditional boutique. Every inquiry is answered personally.
9. Does OTOMO offer bespoke creations?
Yes. We create one-of-a-kind pieces upon request, following personal consultation and precise alignment of idea, material and proportion.
10. Where is the OTOMO atelier located?
Our atelier is located in Solothurn, nestled within the renowned Swiss watchmaking belt where prestigious brands like Rolex, Breitling, and Swatch are based. The technical expertise of this region offers OTOMO expanded production capabilities.
